ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the efficacy of micro?surgery for the treatment of medulla oblongata cavernomas. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 21 patients with cavernous hemangioma who received micro?surgical treatment. Of the 21 patients, 13 were men and 8 women, aged 22 to 63 years. The preoperative Karnofsky performance status(KPS)score was 76.5 ± 10.2. The main clinical manifestations included sensory disorder and difficulty swallowing etc. According to the location of the lesions ,the posterior transchoroidal fissure approach was employed for 16 patients;far?lateral approach,5 patients. Electrophysiological monitoring and nervous system navigation were supple?mentarily adopted in both types of surgery. Further ,KPS scoring was conducted to evaluate the patients 'quality of life. Results The medulla cav?ernous hemangioma was excised in all cases. For 17 patients with primary neurological disorders ,their symptoms were alleviated or resolved;4 pa?tients had severe symptoms and 8 presented with new clinical symptoms. A follow?up visit was conducted 8 to 97 months post?surgery(average 47.6 months). All patients were found capable of caring for themselves in daily life and performing simple or normal learning and working activities without recurrence or bleeding. The mean postoperative KPS score was 83.7 ± 15.5. Conclusion Patients with medulla cavernous hemangioma bleeding or severe symptoms should actively seek surgical treatment. Repeated bleeding is the absolute indication for surgery. Surgical skills ,elec?trophysiological monitoring, and nervous system navigation can reduce nervous system damage and protect the brainstem. The patient's quality of life is expected to significantly improve after surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To establish a three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) model for thiazide 11β-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase ( HSD) inhibitors in order to perform structure modification and find thiazide 11β-HSD inhibitors with more activity. Methods: The 3D-QSAR model of thiazine derivatives was constructed by the method of comparative molecular force field analysis, and the model was validated by using a molecular docking method. Results:An accurate 3D-QSAR model of 11β-HSD inhibitors was obtained (CoMFA:q2 =0. 346, r2 =0. 850, where q2 was the cross-validation coefficient and r2 was the non-cross validation coefficient) . Conclusion:The results provide important theoretical basis for the rational design of novel thiazide 11β-HSD inhibitors.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEWe established an animal model of nude mice with Tca8113 tumor and cut some tissue for biopsy. We also determined the biological behavior and mechanisms of the tumor.

METHODSThe mice were divided into two groups randomly. Mice in both groups were injected with Tca8113 cells into their tongues. The survival condition, growth of primary focus, and metastasis were observed. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemistry were performed on nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1), and Ki67 to determine their distributions within the tumor. Cytokeratin staining was also performed to detect micrometastasis in the submandibular lymph nodes.

RESULTSThe emerging rate of tumor was 97.92%. The weight and survival time of the experimental group were lower than that of the control group, whereas the metastasis ratio was higher. The expression of NF-κB, MMP-9, SDF-1, and MMP-9 in tumors was higher in the experimental group than that in the control group. The expression of NF-κB, MMP-9, VEGF, and SDF-1 was relevant. The microvessel density of the experimental group was higher than that in the control group.

CONCLUSIONSBiopsy can affect the biological behavior of tongue tumor and can promote growth of primary focus and metastasis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to examine the expression of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)/B cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) signal pathway and glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and provide references for the early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of OSCC.

METHODSA total of 55 cases of OSCC and 10 cases of paracan- cerous mucosa were examined in this study. Their expressions of GSK-3β, NF-κB and Bcl-2 were detected using the SP me- thod immunohistochemistry. The correlation between their expression in OSCC and the clinical and pathological peculiarity of OSCC was analyzed.

RESULTSThe positive expression of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 in OSCC were significantly higher than that in paracancerous mucosa (P < 0.01). The expression of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 had no obvious relationship with patient's age, sex, and clinical stages of the disease (P > 0.05). The expression of Bcl-2 was significantly correlated with the degree of tumor differentiation (P < 0.05), whereas the expression of GSK-3β and NF-κB in OSCC had no obvious relation- ship with the degree of tumor differentiation (P > 0.05). Strong positive correlations were observed among the expressions of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe positive expression of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 in OSCC are sig- nificantly higher than that in paracancerous mucosa. Detecting GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 in OSCC may have implications in the early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of OSCC.
